Company History

Abell Engineering Co., Inc. (later to become Abell Combustion, Inc. in 9/2000) was founded by Ernest G. Abell, P.E. in January 1971. He brought with him 27 years of combustion experience, starting as a meter reader at Philadelphia Gas Works to President of the J.V. Calhoun Equipment Company. Ernest remained with Abell Engineering until 1993, when he retired after 50 years in the combustion field.

Leadership of the company was assumed by Stephen G. Abell, a second-generation combustion specialist, who continues to run the business to this day.

Stephen G. Abell - Villanova B.S. 1975

Steve spent his high school and college years doing piping and wiring parttime on specialized combustion systems. Upon graduation from Villanova University, he went to work in Cleveland, Ohio at Pyronics, Inc. for one year; whereby, he built combustion equipment such as burners, regulators, valves, and control panels to gain insight into the inner workings of these components, and how they relate to the overall combustion process.

In 1977, he returned to Abell Engineering (now Abell Combustion) where he has worked in sales, design, and service ever since.
